Severe thunderstorms bring high winds; 76 mph wind gust at DIA

Storm interupts Riot Fest in Byers

DENVER - High wind gusts and thunderstorms were reported along the Front Range, from Elbert to DIA on Sunday evening.

A 76 mph wind gust was reported on a wind shear sensor at DIA at about 6 p.m.

Just after 6 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 17 miles south of Elbert to near Roxborough Park. They were moving northeast at 40 mph.  Radar indicated 60 mph wind gusts.  Expect expect damage to roofs, siding and trees.  Locations impacted include Denver, Aurora, Centennial, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock,  Parker, Littleton, Englewood, Elbert, Greenwood Village, Lone Tree, Roxborough Park, Sheridan, Bennett, Elizabeth, Kiowa,  Simla, Larkspur, Byers and Ponderosa Park.     

The severe weather alerts expired at 6:45 p.m. 

The severe weather disrupted Riot Fest in Byers.  The two-day musical festival was stopped as lightning and rain hit, and participants were urged to seek shelter in their cars.
