SALINAS, Calif. – A Colorado man who claims his service dog was stolen will be reunited with the animal after authorities located it in California.

Eero Kanerva of Loveland suffers from an anxiety disorder and his dog, Susi, helps alleviate his symptoms.

Kanerva told KION-TV that a California woman on vacation in Colorado stole Susi two weeks ago after Kanerva met her at a dog park. The two made plans to take their dogs to a lake several days later and on the way there, the woman took off with Susi, Kanerva said.

KION reports that a sheriff’s deputy in Monterey County, California found Susi on Saturday and turned her in to the local SPCA.

Susi will stay at the SPCA in Monterey County until she flies home to Colorado Wednesday morning, according to KION.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has not identified the woman since no charges have been filed.
