Rio Blanco County Sheriff Si Woodruff assaulted in hospital parking lot, admitted for treatment

MEEKER, Colo. - Rio Blanco County Sheriff Si Woodruff was stabbed in the parking lot of Pioneers Hospital in Meeker and subsequently admitted to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Woodruff was in the parking lot while a man was being taken into custody there, the Sheriff's Office said. The suspect allegedly assaulted the sheriff during the arrest. Meeker Police Chief Robert Hervey was also involved in the arrest, but was not injured.

The sheriff was admitted to Pioneer Hospital in Meeker, but was then transferred to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction where he underwent surgery.  His office announced that Woodruff  is now doing well.

The suspect was identified Saturday as 19-year-old Logan Piper. He is in custody at the Rio Blanco County Jail on a $100,000 bond for investigation of attempted first-degree murder on a peace officer and first-degree assault
