RIFLE, Colo. – The creepy clown craze just won’t die, and police are starting to get tired of it as well.
“The Rifle Police Department would like to urge everyone not to give in to what amounts to a fabricated and typically baseless panic,” the Rifle Police Department posted to FacebookTuesday after the latest area “threat.”
“Social media has enabled this to spread like wildfire…We urge all residents to continue life as normal,” the post continued.
The response came after someone called Rifle police to report a man wearing a clown mask. Officers found that a local man who had a clown mask attached to his passenger-side headrest for several years was seen and reported.
Pictures of the man and the mask showed up on Facebook later that day, causing further alarm. The Rifle Police Department says none of the threats have been credible so far.
“If you see something on [F]acebook that causes you to take actions that you would not normally, please consider the source and do a little research to vet the information,” the police department advises.
And of course, call 911 in a real emergency.
