LONE TREE, Colo. – Commuters in Lone Tree don’t have to wait for the bus, the bus comes to them at the request of a button.
Uber has partnered with the City of Lone Tree to provide free on-demand rides every weekday as part of the city’s effort to expand mobility options.
In the first of its kind in the nation, the pilot project allows anyone with a pick-up location in Lone Tree to a request a 12-passenger shuttle through the Uber app.
The city is calling the experimental public transportation option Link On Demand, and it’s available free through the Uber app from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays. The app will display the Link On Demand option once the rider puts in their destination.
The ride-share option is unique in that it melds the on-demand service of Uber to a sometimes unreliable public transportation system.
“Based on conversations and survey results, we know that congestion reduction and transportation options are a top priority for our residents and businesses,” said Lone Tree Mayor Jackie Millet.“With that in mind, Lone Tree set a goal to be a national model for our next generation transportation network, and this partnership amplifies our efforts to optimize the infrastructure we already have.”
Wait times will vary, and users can use a traditional Uber vehicle at their expense if the wait is too long.
