DENVER – If you’re looking for a great place to start a family, you could do a lot worse than Colorado.

The Centennial State came in at number 11 on WalletHub’s list of top states in which to have a baby. The top spot went to Vermont, while Mississippi earned the title of “worst” state for having a baby.

WalletHub’s ranking takes into account a number of factors related to having a baby, such as the typical cost of a hospital birth, infant mortality rates, number of preterm births, availability of pediatricians, obstetrician-gynecologists and midwives, and parental leave policies, among other factors.

Colorado was among the states with the highest C-section birth costs, but its scores on the other factors put it one spot below the 10 “best” states.

Geographically, the “top” states according to WalletHub are all located in the Northeast, Midwest and West. The bottom 10 states are almost all located in the South.

Take a look at the map below to see how each state ranked.
