AURORA, Colo. - The westbound lane of East Jewell Avenue will be closed between South Havana Street and South Peoria Street from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday while Xcel Energy repairs a damaged transmission line.

The high-voltage tower was damaged when a truck slammed into it Sunday morning.  About 100 neighbors were evacuated because officials were concerned the tower might fall onto homes.

Crews plan to install new foundations on the 100-foot-high tower.

The repairs could slow down drivers in the area during the morning and evening commute Tuesday.

Closures are planned Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to allow crews to finish the job.

Xcel Energy said they will replace the tower itself in about a week.
