Remembering Jessica Ridgeway: Jefferson County pledges 100,000 dollars to Ridgeway Memorial Park

First major contribution to the park renovation

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - Jefferson County pledged to contribute $100,000 to the City of Westminster’s Jessica Ridgeway Memorial Park Fund.

This is the first major contribution to the park renovation, in the 10-year-old girl's honor.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, the park will become a place for positive reflection and memories, according to the Westminster City Manager’s newsletter. Plans for the park include some of Jessica's favorite things, like a zip line-like track ride, knock-knock jokes, flowers and her favorite color, purple.

Ridgeway disappeared on Oct. 5 as she was walking to meet up with friends at Chelsea Park so they could all walk to school together. The park is located at 10765 Moore Street, several blocks from her home.

Jessica never got to the park, and her remains were found in an Arvada open space park five days later.

A makeshift memorial grew at Chelsea park during the search for Ridgeway, and the Westminster City Council voted to change the name in November.

Complete details on the fundraising effort, including plans for the park and ways to contribute, are on the Westminster Legacy Foundation website.
