DENVER -- Parking problems at the Regis University campus are spilling over into residential areas nearby.

Students pay $400 a year for campus parking, and most students say not only is it expensive, but it doesn't usually guarantee them a spot.

Some decide to park at residential areas nearby, which takes up parking spots belonging to residents.  Yvonne May says she's had enough and posted a no parking sign on the tree outside her home. May says the problem is only getting worse.

“We are supposed to be the residents with some privilege. We pay the property taxes but we are being punished,” said May.

University officials say $400 is the average rate for campus parking. They also say there are plenty of open spaces, but some students prefer to park at certain areas.

University officials say they plan to use a portion of the annual parking lot charges to build more parking spaces.
