Rape sentencing for Tony Dotson, who is also accused of trying to have the rape victim murdered

Dotson sentenced to 96-years-to-life

DENVER - A convicted rapist -- who is also accused of trying to have the rape victim killed -- will serve 96 years to life in prison.

Tony Dotson was sentenced Friday afternoon for the sexual assault, burglary and assault that occurred on May 21, 2012 in Denver.

The 41-year-old was also indicted in December on a new charge of solicitation to commit first-degree murder. He allegedly began plotting the murder of the victim while he was in jail awaiting trial for the rape, said Denver District Attorney Spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough.

The hit was never carried out.

In addition to whatever sentence is handed down Friday, Dotson could face an additional 24 years in prison if convicted of the solicitation charge.
