DENVER – Much of the Front Range will see a cooler day Wednesday than we’ve had in a while, and rain and thunderstorms are likely to pop up throughout the afternoon.

VIEW: Current weather radar and conditions

The heaviest precipitation will stay toward southern Colorado, where flash flood watches are in effect until 3 a.m. Thursday. But Castle Rock and Denver’s southern suburbs could still see some heavy rain and possible thunderstorms.

Some showers were already popping up by 11 a.m. in Rocky Mountain National Park and along the foothills of the Front Range, and they are expected to continue to develop into the early afternoon.

The heaviest precipitation in Denver and along the rest of the Front Range is expected from 3 p.m. through the evening. Most places will see between one-quarter and one-half of an inch of precipitation.

Temperatures in the Denver area are expected to only reach the low-80s Wednesday and the mid-80s Thursday—a welcome break from a recent stretch of heat.

The monsoon moisture will move out by Friday, though isolated storms are still possible each afternoon through the weekend.
