AURORA, Colo – Masked bandits are causing mayhem in an Aurora neighborhood – the description of the suspects include the words fur, whiskers and paws.

People in an Aurora neighborhood said they have been dealing with a sudden spree of raccoon mischief.

“They’ve damaged some of my mom’s furniture outside,” said Andres Ayala. “My dog constantly barks at the corner of our backyard near the shed. I think that’s where they mostly go.”

Another neighbor has dealt with more severe chaos from the critters.

“We have chickens back here,” said Michelle Nibbe. “And apparently the raccoons like to use them as their favorite chew toy. One of them came back here and took one of my chickens head completely off and left the body for me to find.”

Other neighbors said some of the raccoons have even made their way into their house through the pet door in their backyard.

Nibbe said she is doing what she can to try and keep her chickens safe by barricading their coop with bricks.

But she said this has been happening since April.

“There’s not much we can do, because animal control won’t do anything since they are a wild animal,” Nibbe said. “It’s just nature, but everyone needs to do what they can to try and prevent things from happening like them coming into your house.”

Nibbe said she may have an option to call an exterminator to try and possibly relocate the raccoons.
