Suspect dead after 2nd officer involved shooting in Pueblo on first day of 2013

PUEBLO, Colo. - The suspect Pueblo police say shot an officer early on the first day of the new year has been shot and killed, according to KKTV.

That officer is in the hospital in stable condition, KKTV reports.

Police tell our partners at KRDO an officer on patrol in the area of 11th and Greenwood hear what he believed to be gunshots at about 3 a.m.

While investigating the sounds, they came across a suspicious vehicle that fled the area.

A vehicle pursuit ensued and the fleeing vehicle crashed a short time later on Craig Street, near 4th and Elizabeth.

The people in the car ran from the crash and one shot at an officer as he drove on scene.

Police say the officer who was shot was able to return fire.

Some of the suspects were caught, but the suspected gunman got away, according to KKTV.

Police say the gunman made it to Highway 50 and Elizabeth Street on foot. That’s where a second officer involved shooting happened and the suspect was killed.

Drivers on I-25 are not able to exit onto Highway 50 because police are still investigating the crime scene.
