LAKEWOOD, Colo. - West Metro Fire Department is warning residents to take precautions after a series of arson fires in Lakewood.
Fire officials are telling residents to park a reasonable distance from structures, maintain working smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, keep all doors and vehicles locked and secured and watch for suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
The arson fires started in October.
On Oct. 22, there was a series of fires in the area of West Alameda Avenue and South Estes Street. Fifteen vehicles, one motorcycle and two homes were damaged or destroyed in four fires.
There was another suspicious fire in the area on Nov. 2, 2013.
"Due to some similar circumstances it has not been ruled out as being related to the October 22nd fires," West Metro Fire officials said.
Investigators said they have followed up on dozens of leads and interviewed several persons of interest, but no one has been arrested.
Lakewood Police have increased their presence in the area and community members who have information about the fires are asked to call West Metro Fire Rescue at 303-989-4307 or the Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7111.
