DENVER - A power outage forced Meals on Wheels to cancel its meal deliveries seniors in a seven-county area on Friday.
A power pole caught on fire in Denver, knocking out power to about 150 customers. While the outage was small, one of the customers was the kitchen where Meals on Wheels is located.
The food planned for Friday's deliveries got above the safe temperature and had to be discarded, forcing officials to cancel deliveries in Adams, Arapahoe, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, Gilpin and Jefferson counties.
Meals on Wheels recipients should have a backup meal from the program they can use Friday.
Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver meals to homebound people 60 years and older. Learn more: http://www.voacolorado.org/Services/We-Feed/Meals-on-Wheels
