DENVER - The Denver bomb squad swiftly ended an evacuation at a Waste Management recycling center Friday morning when they determined what had been reported as "gun powder" in cardboard tubes was likely homemade fireworks, police said.
Denver police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez said someone found the suspicious powder in the tubes Thursday, but it wasn't reported to 911 until Friday.
The incident briefly caused an evacuation of the recycling facility located at 5395 Franklin St. at about 8:30 a.m.
But bomb squad members soon removed the cardboard tubes, which appeared to contain less powerful "fireworks powder," Lopez said.
Workers then went back to work.
