Marijuana magazine provision won't be enforced

DENVER - A Colorado law requiring marijuana magazines to be kept behind the counter like pornography won't be enforced.

An emergency order issued by the state Department of Revenue Wednesday said that the provision is "contrary to the public interest."

Three magazine publishers, and a group of Denver booksellers, challenged the magazine requirement. It is part of a recently adopted law setting rules for how the newly legal drug should be grown and sold.

The magazine restriction would have required pot-themed magazines to be sold behind the counter in stores that allow people under 21.

A lawyer for the publishers says a federal judge will hear the challenge Thursday. The restriction was scheduled to take effect July 1.
