GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. – An old safe that sat locked and nearly forgotten at the Post Independent has been cracked, uncovering a fascinating look at the area’s past and one of the nation’s most famous serial killers.
A local locksmith noticed the old Glenwood Post safe and offered to take a crack at it, the Post Independent reports. Nobody in the office knew the combination and it had most recently been used as a table.
Inside were envelopes full of photo negatives, including one labeled “Bundy Capture.” The negatives from the 1970s showed infamous serial killer Ted Bundy and scenes from the search for him after he escaped from the Pitkin and Garfield county jails.
By the time he was executed in Florida in 1989, Bundy had admitted to 36 killings, but many experts believe the actual number to be much higher.
