Police take down man who got out of a burning car holding a machete

Man initially refused to get out of burning car

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Police in Colorado Springs took down a man who got out of a burning car holding a machete.

Officers found a car that had been "intentionally set on fire" in the 600 block of Tia Juana Street at about 8:45 Wednesday night, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The car was actively burning but the man initially refused orders to get out, police said.

The man eventually got out of the vehicle with a large machete in his hands.

When he refused orders to drop the weapon, police deployed a "less-lethal impact weapon," officials said.

The man dropped the machete and was taken into custody.

He is accused threatening people with the machete at a home on Tia Juana Street shortly before the standoff with police.

The man has not been identified.
