Police: Suspicious couple at Greeley daycare a false alarm

GREELEY, Colo. - Greeley police were looking for a suspicious couple who walked into a daycare center and tried to pick up a child who wasn't theirs but it turned out to be a false alarm.

Police said a couple with a young child who entered the Sunshine Daycare at 2101 16th Street, across from North Colorado Medical Center and attempted to pick up a female child on Monday afternoon.  The daycare staff didn't know the couple who told them the child’s mother had asked them to pick her up.

The couple only knew the child’s first name and the daycare had no record of anyone, other than the parents, approved to pick up the child. As staff members attempted to contact the parents for approval, the couple commented that they had the wrong daycare and left the building.

Police sent out an alert, asking for the public's help in identifying the couple but hours later said it was all a big mix-up.  The couple was in the wrong part of the church building and were looking for a girl at another facility at the church who had a similar-sounding name.
