Stolen truck found abandoned

DENVER - Denver Police say someone driving a stolen box truck tried to pull into a hotel garage. The truck was too big and became stuck, ripping out the garage's roll-up door when the driver tried backing out.
The strange hit-and-run happened about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday at the underground garage behind the Holiday Inn Denver East-Stapleton at 3333 Quebec St.
"It appears the vehicle might have been too big to actually make it through the (garage entrance) and as it got caught…then it attempted to back out," Denver Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Warneke said. The escaping truck driver "caused severe damage to the parking structure," he added.
The truck left a driveway full of debris and officers quickly found the box truck abandoned nearby, Warneke said. Now they're trying to identify who was driving it.
No one was injured, but hotel guests and staff couldn't drive into or out of the garage for a couple of hours while police investigated and the debris was removed.
Police found a camouflage backpack at the scene that fell from the fleeing truck. As precaution, officers x-rayed to the backpack, but didn't find anything harmful inside, Warneke said.
