Police say Walmart shoplifting suspect nabbed after chase in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Police in Lakewood said they arrested a shoplifting suspect Tuesday after a brief chase with patrol cars and a K-9 unit.

The chase began after officers said they received a call at around 11 a.m. about a shoplifting incident at the Walmart store on Wadsworth Boulevard and West Colfax Avenue.

Steve Davis with the Lakewood Police Department told 7NEWS that a security guard at the store tried to stop the man, but the suspect pulled a handgun.

No shots were fired.

The man then fled the scene in a car and officers pursued him until the vehicle stopped in the area of 13th Avenue and Stuart Street.

Officers said the suspect then took off on foot leaving a woman in the car. She was taken into custody

The man was chased by officers and found by a K-9 unit at the scene. He suffered minor injuries during the pursuit, police said.

He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

It's unclear if a gun was found on the suspect.
