Police: Burglar kills 2 people, escapes in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Police are investigating what they believe is a burglary that ended with two homeowners dead.
Investigators said a burglary was in progress at a home on Bassett Drive Monday morning when the homeowners walked in.
Police believe the homeowners encountered the burglar who shot and killed both of them, then escaped.
The two victims were identified Tuesday afternoon as husband and wife, Whitney M. Butler, 35, and David Dunlap, 37. Dunlap was a Fort Carson soldier.
Investigators are questioning a person of interest in the case.
Neighbors told KRDO-TV that the victims had recently moved into the home and were not well known in the neighborhood.
