JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - The driver of a pickup truck died when he lost control and went off Highway 285 near Conifer on Wednesday morning.
The Colorado State Patrol said the driver was going northbound on Highway 285, when he drifted into the center median.
"The vehicle collided with a cable-rail divider and spun into the southbound lanes, traveling backwards," the Colorado State Patrol said in a news release. " The vehicle then accelerated in the opposite direction, southbound, traveling off the shoulder of the roadway and down an embankment before coming to rest in a marshy area."
The Colorado State Patrol said a 45-year-old man from Bailey died in the crash. His name has not yet been released.
Troopers said they are investigating the possibility that a medical condition caused the crash. Excessive speed, alcohol and/or drug use are not considered contributing factors at this time, officials said.
The crash happened about five miles north of Conifer.
