DENVER - The intersection of Leetsdale and East Mississippi Avenue has been closed for more than two hours after a pedestrian was hit and killed there just after 6 p.m.

Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said a driver was in heavy traffic on Leetsdale when he drove into the turn lane at a high rate of speed, hitting a woman who was walking north on Leetsdale after possibly getting off a bus.  She was not in a crosswalk when she was hit, police said.  The area is just before Leetsdale becomes Parker Road, according to police.

The driver didn't stop.

Police are looking for a bluish-grey Buick Enclave with damage to the headlight.  They said the vehicle left a large amount of debris at the scene.

The intersection will remain closed while the investigation continues.
