PD: Handcuffed man steals police cruiser, crashes minutes later

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A man who was handcuffed in the back of a police car in Colorado Springs is accused of stealing the car.

Officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department said they were investigating a crime when they observed a suspicious man.

After officers talked to the man, they determined he had a felony and misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.

Officers said they took Dustin Guinn, 21, into custody.

"[He] was secured in handcuffs behind his back, placed in the back seat of a patrol car and secured with a seatbelt," police said.

However, officers said while they were checking a nearby vehicle, Guinn somehow removed the handcuffs, got through a closed, secured window between the driver’s compartment and passenger compartment and drove off in the police cruiser.

Officers said Guinn had possession of the vehicle for about seven minutes before he crashed into a chain link fence and a tree.

Guinn was take into custody again.
