Barnum Park fire in Denver likely caused by fireworks

DENVER - A small fire in Denver's Barnum Park was likely started by fireworks, park officials said.

The fire on Wednesday afternoon burned a small area around a tree, near the recreation center.

Employees at the rec center said they heard what sounded like fireworks just before the fire started, according to initial reports from the scene.

"The rules are simple: No fireworks of any kind are allowed in any Denver Park," Park's spokesman Jeff Green said.

Green said anyone violating the rule could face a $150 fine from park rangers.
