No charges for decorated soldier who mistakenly shot stepdaughter, killing her

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A grand jury has decided that a man who mistook his stepdaughter for a burglar when he shot and killed her at their Colorado Springs home should not face criminal charges.
The Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1vVeZu8 ) Daniel Meade, a decorated Fort Carson soldier who served in Iraq, opened fire on Kiana O'Neil in the early morning hours of Dec. 23 as the girl was crawling through a window.
According to a biography from Fort Carson, Meade has been in the Army for a decade and received awards including the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. He also trained with the Army Rangers and Special Forces.
Colorado's "Make My Day" law allows residents to defend themselves against intruders.
