National Guard helicopters training for wildfires

LITTLETON, Colo. - Military helicopters flying above Chatfield State Park, Cherry Creek Reservoir, Rocky Mountain Arsenal and Bear Creek Lake are preparing for wildfire season.

The Army National Guard helicopters from Buckley Air Force base are participating in wildfire suppression training. The operation began Tuesday and will last through Thursday.

They are picking up buckets of water with Chinook helicopters and rehearsing drops over targeted areas.

Other participants in the training include members of the National Forest Service, the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control and Boulder County Fire.
