National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic begins Sunday in Snowmass

SNOWMASS VILLAGE, Colo. - Some 350 disabled veterans are expected to be on the slopes and ice rinks for the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, a weeklong event that starts Sunday.

The clinic, in its 28th year, is sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Disabled American Veterans. Organizers said in a statement that it serves as a rehabilitation program for veterans with brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and other disabilities.

Earlier clinics have been a first step toward Paralympic competition for vets. Several current and former members of the U.S. disabled ski team are among those offering instruction during the clinic.

In addition to typical winter sports, kayaking and scuba diving classes will be offering in indoor pools during the clinic.
