NASCAR driver Kurt Busch leaving Denver's Furniture Row team to join Stewart-Haas Racing

DENVER - Despite an offer to stay with Denver's Furniture Row Racing team, controversial NASCAR driver Kurt Busch has confirmed he is leaving after this season to join the Stewart-Haas Racing team.

NASCAR tweeted the news Monday morning.

Busch will join Danica Patrick, Kevin Harvick and owner/driver Tony Stewart next season.

Furniture Row told 7NEWS it had made Busch an offer to stay with the team in 2014 and beyond.

"Though he did not accept our offer we respect his decision and wish him future success," said Joe Garone, general manager of Furniture Row Racing. "His driving skill and being a dedicated team player will always be appreciated at Furniture Row Racing. But for right now the main focus for Kurt and the team is to qualify for the Chase and contend for the 2013 Sprint Cup Series championship."

Busch is ranked 12th in the standings, with two races left to go before the chase for the cup.

Furniture Row said it is already searching for a new driver for 2014.
