Multiple crashes on metro Denver highways during snowy Wednesday commute

Multiple crashes snarled traffic in the Denver area Wednesday morning.

The first highway crash was on westbound Interstate 70 just before Sheridan Blvd. at about 5 a.m., according to 7NEWS Traffic Anchor Jayson Luber.

Moments later, there was crash involving a Lakeside Police Department patrol vehicle on I-70 near Harlan. Vehicles were only getting by on the right shoulder, causing traffic to back up.

The Lakeside police SUV was rear-ended by a Chevy HHR, said 7NEWS Reporter Tyler Lopez. The officer appeared to be okay.

Another crash occurred on eastbound I-70 after Sheridan in the right lane at about 5:25 a.m.

"Just walking on this road surprised us," said Lopez. "The road is absolutely deceptive."

Additional crashes were reported on westbound I-70 near Kipling St. and on eastbound I-76 near Pecos.

An RTD bus was involved in a crash on southbound I-25 near Sports Authority Field just before 6 a.m., which slowed traffic through downtown Denver.

Luber reported a crash on westbound I-70 after Ward Rd in the right lane at 6:20 a.m.  Traffic was slow from Kipling.
