83-year-old cyclist died after being hit by a truck Tuesday morning in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - An 83-year-old man riding a bike died after being hit by a moving truck in Lakewood Tuesday morning.
According to Lakewood Police, Donald W. Schaefer was riding a recumbent bike northbound on Garrison Street around 8:20 a.m. when a moving truck turned through the lane to get onto the 6th Avenue onramp. Shaefer was hit and died on the scene. A second bicyclist was uninjured.
Police identified the driver of the "Amazing Moves" truck as John Holzinger, 24. He was issued a summons for careless driving resulting in death.
7NEWS photojournalist Brad Bogott saw Holzinger on the scene and described him as visibly shaken.
Investigators on the scene said there was no sign Holzinger was intoxicated or had committed any other crime.
