AURORA, Colo. - Off-duty Littleton Officer Kevin Denner was killed Monday when his motorcycle collided with a car that turned in front of him in Aurora.
The fatal crash happened around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Belleview Avenue and De Gaulle Street. The motorcycle hit the passenger side of the Toyota car.
Aurora Police said Denner was riding a Harley Davidson and was wearing a helmet, but it was knocked off during the crash.
Although there are no stop signs for Belleview, police said they believed the driver of the Toyota failed to yield the right of way as required. They also believe the driver was intoxicated.
A 7NEWS photographer at the scene said he saw police give the male car driver a breathalyzer test and then arrest the man.
Police said that after the results of a chemical test are received, the appropriate charges will be filed.
The City of Littleton issued a statement Monday evening saying Officer Denner is survived by his father, a wife, and two young children, ages eight and nine.
The city said a memorial fund will be established for his family.
