Motorcyclist injured in chain-reaction crash on Highway 85

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - A motorcyclist was taken to a hospital after being injured in a chain-reaction crash that began when two other vehicles stopped abruptly on Highway 85 in Commerce City.

Commerce City Police said the tractor-trailer was traveling northbound in the left lane when the driver noticed a piece of metal hanging down from a Burlington Northern Railroad bridge. The truck stopped abruptly and so did a Dodge Ram following it.

Police said the motorcyclist hit the back of the Dodge pickup. The rider was wearing a helmet.

Burlington Northern Railroad and CDOT are inspecting the bridge and the left lane of Highway 85. The left lane is closed for that inspection.
