Motorcyclist dies in Friday night hit and run accident in Lakewood

Suspected driver arrested

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Lakewood police have arrested the suspected driver of a pickup truck believed to have caused a fatal hit and run accident with a motorcyclist Friday night.

Officers said a dark colored  truck pulled out in front of the motorcyclist as it was traveling southbound on South Sheridan Boulevard around 9:20 p.m.

The driver of the truck drove away from the intersection of South Sheridan Boulevard and West Center Avenue after the collision, according to Lakewood police spokesman Ryan McKone.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital, where the driver died from injuries, McKone said.

The victim was identified as 47-year-old Dana Schaeffer.

Police said information led them to arrest a suspect in the case, identified as 47-year-old Juan Carlos Hernandez-Lupercio.  He was arrested on suspicion of failure to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death, careless driving resulting in death, no proof of insurance, and failure to notify police of an accident.
