CASTLE ROCK, Colo. - A woman who was trying to escape a domestic violence situation was found stabbed to death Saturday morning in Castle Rock, Castle Rock spokeswoman Caroline Kipp told 7NEWS.

Kipp said a call of a domestic disturbance came at around 4:50 a.m. Saturday from the Founders Village neighborhood in Castle Rock. A person inside the home on 64 S. Amherst Street told police there was an intruder.

When police got to the scene and went inside the home, they found a woman, 36, stabbed to death. They also found a 44-year-old man in the home who underwent surgery at a local hospital and was last listed in critical condition.

The woman was staying at the home with both her mother and brother to escape a domestic violence situation, Kipp said.

Kipp also said the woman's children were not physically injured. The Victims Assistance Team is working with them now, along with the victim's mom and brother.

Names of all involved will be released at a later time, Kipp said.
