DENVER – Good morning everyone! Here are 5 things you need to know for Tuesday, Aug. 29.
1. Louisiana braces for Harvey's rain
The outer bands of Harvey, which remains a tropical storm, are expected to shower New Orleans with heavy rains days after the storm flooded Houston and pummeled east Texas, forecasters say.
2. Denver approves immigrant protection ordinance
The Denver City Council on Monday unanimously approved an ordinance that prohibits city employees from collecting information on someone's immigration status and the sharing of that information for the purpose of federal immigration enforcement.
3. Full overnight closure of SB I-25
Southbound I-25 will be closed between Bijou Street and Tejon Street/Nevada Avenue beginning at 9 p.m. Tuesday. The closure will remain in effect until Wednesday at 5 a.m. so crews can perform a traffic switch over on the Colorado Avenue Bridge.
4. Tax reform rally at state Capitol
Beginning at 11:30 a.m., several are expected to rally for tax reform in front of the state Capitol. Speakers will include Colorado Representative Ken Buck, KHOW host Mike Brown and the Colorado Director for Americans for Prosperity.
5. Hot weather returns
Expect mostly sunny, but somewhat hazy, skies for the next several days. Highs will remain in the 80s and low 90s for lower elevations, with 70s to around 80 for the mountains.
