CHEYENNE COUNTY, Colo. - A ground and aerial search is underway for a man who made a wrong turn and got his truck stuck in a field on the Eastern Plains.
The driver, 66-year-old Clark Nelson, was driving from Kansas to Colorado went he called 911 Sunday night and said he had turned off on a dirt road and got stuck in a field. He then ran out of gas.
Because Nelson's black Chevy Tahoe doesn't have OnStar or Lo-jack and the man's cellphone isn't GPS-enabled, authorities have been unable to find him. The man's cellphone battery has also died.
Deputies think Nelson was likely in Kiowa, Cheyenne, Lincoln, Kit Carson, Wallace or and Sherman county. Wallace and Sherman counties are in Kansas.
The Colorado Civil Air Patrol is using planes to look for the man. CAP ground teams are also searching the area.
Deputies are asking drivers to "keep your eyes out for anything that looks out of the ordinary if you are out."
If you spot a disabled black Chevy Tahoe, please call the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office at 719-767-5633.
