Missing 2-year-old Essence Lovato found safe in home near Fountain based on Amber Alert tip

Police: Unclear if charges will be filed in case

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Police said they have found a missing 2-year-old girl unharmed at a home near Fountain on Wednesday after receiving a tip based on an Amber Alert.

Essence Lovato was last seen between 10 p.m and 11 p.m. Monday in Colorado Springs, police said. Her mother gave an acquaintance, 28-year-old Tonia Shetina, permission to drive Lovato to her grandfather's home.

The pair never arrived at the grandfather's home and authorities issued an Amber Alert early Wednesday morning.  Essence was missing for almost 24 hours before police were notified late Tuesday night, said Colorado Springs police spokeswoman Barbara Miller.

Just after 3 p.m.,  police received a tip based on the Amber Alert that Shetina was at a home just south of Fountain, Miller said.

At about 3:30 p.m., police investigators and El Paso County sheriff's deputies went to the home and safely recovered Essence.

Miller said investigators are still reviewing the case and a decision hasn't been made on whether charges will be filed.
