Mike Coffman (R) wins Denver Post endorsement in Colorado's 6th Congressional District

DENVER - The Denver Post has endorsed Rep. Mike Coffman, (R-Colorado) in Colorado's 6th Congressional District.

It's the newspapers second endorsement of a major Republican candidate in the 2014 election. The newspaper endorsed Cory Gardner for Senate last week.

In its editorial, the Denver Post wrote, that it's Coffman's "independence of spirit that makes the Aurora Republican a valuable member of Congress, and one of the reasons we think he should be re-elected in Colorado's 6th Congressional District."

The editorial mentions Coffman is a combat veteran in a Congress where the percentage of veterans has plummeted in recent decades.

The newspaper says both Coffman and his opponent, former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, are men "who take their work in public service seriously, mastering complex issues and seeking real solutions. Both are hard-working and intelligent. And both have demonstrated a capacity to reach across the aisle to work with the other party."

However, the newspaper chose Coffman over Romanoff. Read the entire endorsement here.

The newspaper has also endorsed John Hickenlooper for Governor, Don Quick for Attorney General and Joe Neguse for Colorado Secretary of State.
