DENVER - A federal fugitive and bank robbery suspect was captured Monday morning by the U.S. Marshals Service Colorado Violent Offender Task Force.
Robert Gilmour Estes was declared an escaped federal prisoner when he failed to report to a residential re-entry facility in Denver on Oct. 15. In the following days, he became a suspect in at least two local bank robberies.
The FBI says the robberies of U.S. Bank locations in Denver and Englewood were both robbed by a man who entered the bank, implied he had a handgun, and ran off with the money.
Estes was believed to be staying at the Radian Inn, located at 10950 E. Colfax Ave. in Aurora. The address was put under surveillance and he was arrested around 10:30 a.m. when members of the Marshals' task force recognized him.
