DENVER - Whoopi Goldberg, the comedian, actress and moderator of The View on ABC, wrote an editorial about her marijuana vaporizer pen for The Denver Post's marijuana-focused feature section The Cannabist.
In her editorial, Goldberg explains her "mostly private" relationship with the device for smoking cannabis oil. Goldberg personifies the vape pen and refers to it as a friend, using the words "she" and "her."
"The vape pen has changed my life," Goldberg wrote. "No, I'm not exaggerating. In fact, her name is Sippy. Yes, she's a she. And yes, I named her Sippy because I take tiny, little sips — sassy sips, even — from her."
Goldberg moderates The View from ABC's studio in New York, a state that bans both medical and recreational marijuana. She does not mention that state's laws in this article, but does indicate that her use is medical in nature.
"I'm certainly not looking for that high high. I'm looking for relief," she wrote, adding that the relief she is seeking is from glaucoma.
Cannabist editor Ricardo Baca says he met Goldberg during an appearance on the set of The View in January.
"She'd been reading The Cannabist and she was armed with knowledge and opinion - and she even showed me her vape pen, which she ended up writing about in her first column for The Cannabist. While we were on air, she joked in front of her co-hosts and the audience that she would write for the site," he told 7NEWS.
The Cannabist refers to Goldberg as a guest columnist and has already established a biography page for her, indicating future articles are likely to come from her. Baca says future articles are likely to appear every two months.
