Maplewood Elementary briefly locked down after reports of shots fired in area near Greeley school

GREELEY, Colo. - Kids at Maplewood Elementary were ushered indoors Thursday morning after there were reports of shots fired near the campus.

Greeley police Sgt. Susan West said police were called to the area of 1201 21st Ave. to investigate after someone reported hearing what sounded like gunshots near the school.

No one saw the reported shooting and investigators have not found anything on the school property, West said.

Officers are in the area checking out the report.

The school was locked down for about 10 minutes, a spokeswoman with the Greeley-Evans School District 6 said. The lockdown has since been lifted.
