COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Manitou Incline in Colorado Springs will soon be closed to the public for a months-long project to spruce up the popular trail.
Beginning on Monday, Aug. 21, the incline will be closed so crews can stabilize parts of the slope and improve drainage, fix damaged retaining walls, anchor some of the ties on the incline’s upper third and clean up exposed rebar and debris.
The work is expected to last for four months.
Separately, the incline will be closed on Aug. 19 and 20 for the Pikes Peak Ascent Marathon.
This is the third phase of a project that aims to improve safety and accessibility at the Manitou Incline as well as extend the life of the trail, which has been damaged by erosion.
The estimated cost of the project is $2 million and funding comes from a disaster recovery block grant.
