EDGEWATER, Colo. – A man who held police at bay for hours during a tense standoff in Edgewater Tuesday morning was taken into custody without further incident.

The situation arose after a 911 call for a domestic situation at the home located in the 2700 block of Ames Street.

Police say the man’s girlfriend told responding officers that the suspect was armed. At that point, Wheat Ridge Police called in a SWAT team to assist.

The suspect barricaded himself in the home for about two hours until police were able to take the man into custody around 6:15 a.m.

Emergency notifications were sent out to surrounding neighbors during the standoff.

Police say the suspect has an extensive criminal history and an active felony warrant. Police have yet to release his name.
