Man turns himself in for murder of teenage girl in Commerce City

Police say suspect may have known the victim

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Shortly before midnight Sunday, a man called 911 and told dispatchers he wanted to turn himself in for having just killed someone.

The man was identified by Commerce City Police as Esequiel Padilla-Villalobos, 24. Officer Chris Dickey said Padilla-Villalobos provided officers with the location of 14-year-old girl's body, which was found in the 8600 block of Verbena Street.

Dickey said the cause of death hasn't been determined yet, but Padilla-Villalobos is being held on suspicion of first degree murder.

Although the victim was tentatively identified, Dickey did not reveal her name because notification of her family is still pending. He did say, however, that it appears Padilla-Villalobos may have known the victim.
