Victim shot to death in SW Denver identified

DENVER - Denver police say a man was shot to death Wednesday night in southwest Denver.

Police were called to the 1600 block of South Bryant Street, near Sanderson Gulch Park at 10 p.m. where they found a man critically injured with a single gunshot wound.

The victim was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center where he died a short time later.

On Thursday, the victim was identified as Michael Anthony Chavez.

Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said the shooting is under investigation as a homicide.

"Witnesses related that after hearing gunshots a dark-colored vehicle was observed leaving the scene at a high rate of speed northbound on South Bryant Street," police said on Thursday.
