AURORA, Colo. - The man shot and killed by campus police at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora was an employee who had recently resigned, but was still working.
Police told 7NEWS they had calls about a suicidal man in the hospital parking lot at 7 p.m. Wednesday. When they tried to contact the man, he took off in an SUV.
A short chase ended at the intersection of 16th Avenue and Quentin Street, where the suspect was shot.
The man was taken to the hospital 100 yards away, where he died.
Officials with the University of Colorado Hospital said the man was a current UCH employee who had recently resigned. The man's last day was to be March 28. The man's name was not released.
"This is a very sad situation, and our thoughts are with the person’s family and our employees," Dan Weaver,
media relations director, said in a news release. "Investigators say this is an isolated incident, and there is no added concern for safety on campus at this time."
Police are investigating whether the man was armed or made any threatening actions to determine why the officer fired at the man. They are also investigating how many shots were fired.
