Man shot to death in Aurora; police investigating

AURORA, Colo. - Aurora police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday night.

The shooting happened a little before 10 p.m. at 1645 Alton Street, said Gary Millspaugh, an Aurora officer.

"People who live at the house said they heard a few gunshots and when they went to check on it, they found a man shot, moaning outside," Millspaugh told our partners at The Denver Post.

Officers are hopeful that someone in the residential neighborhood saw or heard something that could help to solve the crime.

"This block, there are a lot of apartment buildings and it was more or less a courtyard between two buildings," Aurora Police spokeswoman Sgt. Cassidy Carlson told 7NEWS.

The man in his 40s was shot an unknown number of times and taken to University of Colorado Hospital, where he died, police said.
